Monitoring and Analysis of the Driving Forces of Changes in the Ecological Environment of a Mining Area of Western China from 1986 to 2022

The remote sensing ecological index (RSEI) has been widely used in the rapid monitoring and evaluation of regional environment; however, research on main factors that cause changes RSEI impact human activities mining area is not often explored. To this end, paper selected Landsat (TM/OLI) series images from 1986 to 2022; extracted four important indicators normalized difference vegetation (NDVI), wetness component tasseled cap transformation (WET), built-up soil (NDBSI), land surface temperature (LST); calculated based principal analysis method; monitored evaluated environment Shendong Mining Area for a period 36 years; analyzed driving forces these changes. results show following: (1) status study shown an overall upward trend during 1986–2022 period. (2) From 2022, with grade 0.4–0.6 increased by 1142.74 km2, 0.6–0.8 124.09 0.8–1.0 0.73 km2. (3) In past years, proportion positive was 97.52%, regions negative 6.20%. (4) Rainfall factor causes environment. By analyzing change relationship between RSEI, reference can be provided formulation environmental protection policies planning areas.
